Zombie Run 2026
Our yearly fundraiser is back: a 1.5km run across the SAS campus with Zombie Zones, safe zones and three flag “lives” to protect.

Building Communities. Changing Lives.
We are the HS Gawad Kalinga service club at Singapore American School. Our SAS GK village in Dalaguete, Cebu, Philippines, has benefited significantly over the years due primarily to the success of our annual Zombie Run event.
What we do
We're a student-run service club, and nearly everything we do comes back to one place: the SAS GK village in Dalaguete, Cebu. The club spent seven years raising the money to build it, broke ground in November 2018, and still supports the families who live there today.
Most of that money comes from the Zombie Run, a 1.5km race across the SAS campus where high school students play the zombies. Over the years the club has also run fundraisers like GKarolling and the Bayanihan Bash.
Twice a year, on the November Trip and during Interim, club members travel to the village to build houses, mix cement and spend time with the kids. You can read what that's like from students who went on Interim 2026 and the November Trip 2025.
What the SAS community has built
At the 2018 Zombie Run, 683 runners from grades 1 to 10 raised $21,375.52, the same year the club broke ground on its own village.
In most years the Zombie Run brings in around $15,000 for the village. It takes about 700 runners and over 100 high school students, working with four different clubs, to pull it off.
In February 2019, students on Interim to Dalaguete visited the homes of GK beneficiaries to hear about their lives and families. The families were still living in small sheds of wood and scrap, and were due to be given the keys to their new concrete homes that afternoon.
Each interview ended with the same question: what are you worried about when moving to the new GK houses? Every family gave the same answer. They weren’t worried. Their community was already strong, and their neighbours were all moving with them.

What it's like to be there
“I thought Interim would mostly be about the building, and we did a lot of it: houses, fences, and so much cement. But what I’ll remember is the kids running over the second we finished work, and everyone sitting around playing ukulele at night.
Learning about Filipino culture from the people in the village, instead of from a textbook, made me understand why this club exists. I’d go back tomorrow.”
“Mixing cement in the heat was hard work, but it felt good knowing exactly who the houses were for. The kids made every day better. They’d follow us around the site and turn every break into a game.
Dancing with them on the last day is my favourite memory from the whole trip. It’s the reason I want to keep doing GK.”

Zombie Run 2026
The zombies are coming back to campus. The GK Zombie Run is a 2km fun run across the SAS campus, starting on the SAS stadium track, and like every year the money it raises goes to our SAS GK village in Dalaguete, Cebu.
